At our university the Chinese language has been studied since1989, when the department of eastern languages was opened at the faculty of the English language. As an independent department, the chair began to work in 2001. Now it is named Chair of Sinology because it not only includes the Chinese languages, but special attention is paid to studying the culture and history of China, and the history of the Chinese language. 13 people work here now: 4 senior lecturers, 1 professor, 4 senior teachers, and 4 assistants.
Besides study, the chair organizes students' meetings with foreign teachers, representatives of delegations, and city competitions for students who study the Chinese.
Senior lecturer Sergeeva Eugeny Aleksandrovna
From 1989 till 2002 she worked as the head of the chair of Sinology. She has a wide body of work experience. Young teachers of the chair take her advice and students think highly of her and respect her very much.
Senior lecturer Gotlib Oleg Markovich
Candidate of philological science; in 2002 he became the head of the chair of sinology. He is the author of manuals which are widely used during the lessons of the Chinese practical course, translation and grammar study. He is deeply respected by students and teachers.
Senior teacher Stefanovskaja Svetlana Vladimirovna
She has been working at the chair since 1997. She is a very attentive teacher and is always ready to reply to students' questions. Students and teachers respect and appreciate her very much.
Senior teacher Tihonova Elena Vitaljevna
She graduated the University in 1997. She has a great experience of teaching and dealing with students. Students appreciate her exactingness and firmness.
Senior teacher Chen Shuang
In 2003 got the Master degree with a specialty "Russian as a foreign language ". She is now a post-graduate student and also works at the chair. She knows Russian very well. Her students' level of the Chinese is very high.
Senior lecturer Kobzhitskaja Olga Germanovna
Candidate of philological science; she has great experience and practice teaching at technical university (from1994 to 2001). In 2001 she came back to her native University and enjoys the students' confidence.

They represent a new, younger generation of teachers. They graduated from ISLU in 2002; very active and purposeful.
