:: Language camp
During summer - from the 1st of July till the 31st of August the students of ISLU, who got As and Bs for the exams, were able to have a rest in a summer camp "Yurty", located on the bank of the river Bolishoe Goloustnoe- 7 km away from Baikal, at the expense of the University. Each season lasted 10 days. During this time the students enjoyed the beauty of wild nature, and studied English every day. This program is called "Language Immersion". In spite of the fact that the lessons were not obligatory the holidaymakers enjoyed studying language (using role-play methodology) and even asked to increase the study time from 1 to 2 hours. They also spoke English in their free time, demonstrating their good command of English to their campmates, watched films, sang songs, played an American game "Army". During the last camp period the students made up a flag with ISLU logo and put it on the top of the highest mountain in order to return to this place again.

:: Tatiana's day
"Why am I not Tatiana?" - the words said by almost every l student who came to the university on the 25 of January. Really, on this day you may envy Tania. The students of our faculty organized this holiday, the professional students union sponsored this event. The university congratulated absolutely all Tanias (the total number is 132)

Those Tanias who came to classes in spite of such a big holiday got presents, having taken part in no-losses lottery. And those who stayed at the university till evening could enjoy an unusual performance set up by their instructors, who decided to congratulate their students in such an unusual way.
:: Competition
On the 18th of February an interuniversity competition among the students majoring in Advertising and PR was organized. The theme of the competition was the presidential elections. Each team was to present its candidate on the high position and to win the trust and support of their constituents. The students were creative in performing their task and presented unusual candidates. Both real personalities - Lomonosov M, Madonna and fairy characters - Baba Yaga and Kolobok. Kolobok got more votes of the electorate. The instructors had a chance to look at their students from a different perspective, to assess their creative abilities and make a list of participants of the next competition, which is due to take place in ISLU in March.
:: St. Valentine's Day
To celebrate this day the students of Foreign languages and Social sciences faculty organized a lyrical performance. At the beginning of the performance the presenters got married, and before going to a honeymoon they got presents from their friends - musical performances - songs, dances, playing the musical instruments, - all devoted to love. Students acknowledge their love to each other, to the rector and the dean, speaking different languages. This performance was not just a decoration of this holiday - but it created a very romantic mood.
:: Interview with Dominic Loher, a teacher of German language, of Foreign languages and Social sciences faculty
View from outside: A young Swiss Dominik Loher, from Geneva, managed to graduate from gymnasium, to work in the house of elders for one year (as an alternative army service), to have travelled throughout Europe for his 19 years. And finally his interest and curiosity brought him to Russia, Irkutsk, ISLU. Here he studies Russian language and teaches German to the students of Foreign languages and Social sciences and Modern German Language faculties, and communicates with students The first day we saw Dominik was the 2 of February. Since that time 2 months passed, and his points of view about Russia have changed.
- Dominik, a lot of people are interested in where you are staying?
- I live with a Russian family of 2 persons. Olesya, 25, and her mother - Tamara. It is fun to live with them. I have already got used to a new environment and feel great. I have traveled a lot, and it is easier for me to be in Russia as Russian people, especially, those who live in Siberia, are not spoiled my foreigners (there are not too many of them here). Europeans are tired of foreigners while here people are interested in those who came from overseas.
- As you know, Russia is located between West and East, that is, it combines European and Asian cultures in itself. Do you agree with this?
- Well, I can say that it is not so. Russia is absolutely European country, there is nothing Asian here. People, streets, everything is the same as in Europe. I have traveled thousands of kilometers and finally I reached the place from which I set off.
- But I am sure there are some differences, aren't there?
- Almost none. Just one thing, the shop assistants are not as persistent as in Europe, and I like it.
- And if to be serious?
- Well, Europeans are more free. They are more relaxed in their speech, behavior, outfit. I prefer to buy my clothes in secondhand stores, in this way it is easier to keep your own style. I don't want to follow some specific style, but still I favor panky more.
- What do you think about our students?
- European students are more independent and critical, in Russia it is different.
- I see. Dominik, what was the reaction of your relatives when they learned about your decision to go to Russia?
- Of course, they were surprised. The matter is that there are still a lot of myths and stereotypes about Russia from the time of Cold war. Many Europeans are afraid of Russian maphia, but not me. I came here to learn Russian language.
- Any progress?
- Russian reminds me of German. It is very beautiful but very difficult at the same time. But anyway I already can speak Russian a little bit.
- Thank you very much for you answers, wish you success in your Russian studies. And finally - few words to our students.
- Here in Russia, I am a stranger to you, but you are strangers to me too, please don't forget about it.
