Department of theoretical linguistics of Irkutsk State Linguistic University deals with graduate and postgraduate students; also supervises the doctorates. The auditory covers the vast territory of Siberia and Far East.
Each member of the department staff is able to teach a wide range of courses.
Scientific activity of the department is based on the following aspects of modern linguistics:
- Problems of Word, Sentence and Text
- Lexical and Grammatical Semantics
- Theory of the Language Mapping
- Cognitive Aspects of the Language Meaning
The basic activity aspect is supervising the research activity of graduates and postgraduate students. The students acquire skills of observing the language data, get acquainted with the methods of analysis, and study the substantive provisions of modern linguistic theories. The results of the researches are reported in Scientific Conferences, Round Tables and International Symposiums.
Approximately 40 graduate students are writing their diploma theses being supervised by the department staff. The papers are based on modern linguistic theories concerning:

Department staff also lectures theoretical courses in some Universities in Siberia and Far East of the Russian Federation.
Results of the scientific researches are published in Russia and in other countries.
