Graduate School of Modern English Graduate school of Modern English was established Graduate school of Modern English was established in 1948, it is the oldest school in the University. The first graduate students party took place in 1953.

Graduate school of Modern English is the biggest school of the Irkutsk State Linguistic University. It enrolls 1080 full-time students.

Angelika Valerievna Matienko has been the Dean of GSMB from winter 2000.

Vice-dean - Oksana Viktorovna Lovchagina (promoted to this job in 2007).

Majors:

Theory and Methodology of Teaching Foreign Languages and Cultures, with a qualification of "Linguist-teacher of two foreign languages"
Linguistics and New Information Technologies, with a qualification of a "Linguist"

Students who major in "Linguist-teacher of two foreign languages" can choose German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Polish as a second language. We have an agreement with the Graduate school of the Oriental languages that allows our students to study Chinese as a second language.

There are six departments in our School:

The School Faculty includes:

2 full professors, doctors of philology;
2 professors, candidates of philology;
10 associate professors, candidates of philology;
16 senior instructors and 14 instructors.

High quality of education is secured by effective human resources policy. Top students are offered attractive career prospects as new faculty members. Following two or three years as instructors, young specialists continue their study as post-graduate students to become certified professors.

Among schools that work under the GSME umbrella to develop and upgrade their modern English curricula are:
lyceum #3, school #26, school #65, school #14, school #47, and gymnasium #25; lyceum #1 of Usolie-Sybirskoe, gymnasium of Tulun, school #1 of Zheleznogorsk. 147 former students of those schools were enrolled in Irkutsk State Linguistic University; in autumn 2002 71 students entered GSME.

Graduate School of Modern English is active in cooperation with the British Council, Sister -City Committee "Irkutsk-Eugene" the British and American Universities. Within the frames of this cooperation members of those universities' faculties come to do academic work at ISLU.
